I've been an eBay buyer for decades. A few minor problems with sellers is normal,
but they were always quickly resolved.
Recently, eBay added something called a "security measure." It's a Google CAPTCHA
puzzle. (If you don't know, just go to Google Images and search for "captcha.")
My problem is very simple. I cannot buy anything on eBay without solving the CAPTCHA.
I have four browsers and they always fail to display the CAPTCHA correctly. Unless this
problem is resolved, my eBay account is effectively dead.
I have eBay contact phone numbers, but calling is probably a waste of time. eBay decided
to increase their security measures, which is not a bad thing. However, my buying days at
eBay may be over.
Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem?
Are you using a VPN? Do you have another computer in your house that you could try? If not, do you have a spare USB stick laying around? I would recommend installing/booting Linux Mint from USB stick to rule out your computer.
I've got Firefox and Chrome, plus two lesser known (and smaller) browsers. Less popular
lightweight browsers load web pages faster.
I thought about downloading a portable Linux distro. When I read posts at Linux forums the
vast number a Linux specific acronyms scares me off. I cannot go back to "kindergarten"
computing, if you know what I mean.
I suppose calling eBay customer support and trying to explain my problem might result in a
positive outcome. There are thousands negative comments about eBay customer support,
so I doubt they have a solution.
I'm not sure what to do. I've got to think of something.
