Im sure no one knows what your even talking about. But I get your drift. First off everything shipped to Saudi will get raped at the security checks. Anything useful goes to the security people, anything offensive like a magazine showing a cartoon of Josie and the Pussycats will get thrown in the garbage because it is considered porn.

Im not putting you down. I know because I have shipped more things then I will admit to Saudi when my sister lived there for 8 years....things she never got. Josie is a cartoon figure who wears short pants. Saudi considers that porn so those cartoon magazines shipped to my sisters 8YO daughter never made it. Back then Disney had some Mermaid cartoon movie out. We shipped a CD of the movie but it was confiscated as porn. The Mermaid showed bare shoulders. Toys? If it is acceptable the security people give it to their kids. If it is a Barbie Doll, it gets tossed because it is pornography. If its not porn and no one wants it then it gets delivered to its intended person.

If you ship something valuble to Saudi it will never ever get to its intended person.

Want to ship here? What on earth would be of interest that people here would want? I know people love Egyptian memorabilia and lots of Saddam Hussien money is being sold on E-bay but thats about it. But at least shipments here will not be stolen and will arrive safely to its intended person.

Your idea of an import/export business just dont look very promising right now, especially in this depression of an economy. But good luck anyway.

I have been kicking around the same idea myself. I had thought of maybe a tourism business. Florida has lots of cheap homes now, and I think it would be a fun vacation destination for Saudis. There are low-income girls in the south that might appeal to Saudi men as entertainers. There are also lots of activities for families. Even with the airfare, the price would be pretty good for a vacation. In spite of the news I have heard, it seesm that Saudis like to party.

I think they would like a place with white-sand beaches, blue water and ample vacation "villas." The problems I could think of are:
1. Legalities - Real estate law can be tricky, and even though they could pay in cash, they need to have someone explain the taxes and rules in Arabic. This person would also have to understand laws and regulations. . .

2. Immigration - With this poo about 9-11 it may be difficult for Saudi's to come to the US for vacation. . .

3. Language - I would need someone who can read and write good English and arabic to help with graphic design etc. for advertising.

I don't know much about import/export, though. As someone mentioned the taxes may be high to import into Saudi. BUt if the dollar is low that may be fine. What does America make that Saudis would like to buy?

I live with a Saudi and I can tell you - they love to party.

Also, I am fluent in English and several Arabic dialects.

To the previous poster, I ship to Hungary all the time and it's about 50/50. I ship to UAE and it's better than shipping to Hungary. You had a few experiences that are well, typical of shipping overseas. This says very little about KSA and part of creating an import/export business is developing relationships with security. I see no reason why something couldn't work. How about some of the richest dates on the planet? Someone shipped me dates from their farm and they are unbelievable. I can think of many food-items that I cannot attain cheaply that I desire from KSA. I would also love certain hand-woven clothing articles. I don't know what else but I'm sure there could some ideas to go around.

As far as what Saudi's would want -- Obviously cars are cheaper here than there. I have a friend who wants a pair of jet ski's but he's looking for a way to buy them here in the U.S. and have them shipped cheaply back to KSA. Seems like there could be a market since so many Saudi's attend university in the U.S. atleast for export. I know many Saudi's even come here, furnish their apartment, and then have to simply give away the belongings before they leave. What if they were able to ship many of these items back cheaply?

To the orginial poster, use the phrase "import/export" or "import/export business" when speaking about this subject. This is what we call it and will be a term that will help you when talking about it with others.

Good luck!
