All you're effectively advocating is the increase of wealth redistribution to the banking class (most of whom are foreigners mind you) under the guise of a globalized competition mantra they taught you in 6th grade (or college freshman year econ, both have the same level of content really). You're advocating the continuation of the destruction of the American middle class (in essence the definition of America like it or not) for a plutocratic wet dream of ruling minorities with a nation of debtor slaves, just so you can sleep better at night and tell yourself that as crappy as your own purchasing power is considering you lost the farm financing that crappy college degree, at least everybody is down at the new low bar with you. ...*snip*
LOL - you should be a politician, you've put words down as though they are mine, and assert things I would never have thought about. The truth is your rant kind of lost me near the middle.

All I propose is that if a company stinks at making money, then it needs to change to survive. The government also shouldn't be obligated to finance said change. All the other stuff you wrote isn't me, doesn't represent my views, and in my opinion is off topic.

I concur on your thoughts. Additionally, if we want to expand the discussion a bit, then the logical direction is ... within what industry or industries do we really want the United States heavily involved in manufacturing going forward?

If personal and/or public transportation is something we really want to lead in, then Detroit needs to do some serious re-work and reorganization. We probably need them and or other companies to produce electric, solar, and wind powered vehicles going forward. If they aren't up to the task then we need to use government money to support related R&D so that the true entrepreneural spirit of our citizenry can emerge; so that real thought leaders can start and grow relevant companies in this space.

Perhaps the UAW could have made a concession to trim the benefits by dropping the pension contributions going forward to both the workers and retirees. No paycut for the workers, but cut the pension out. Preserve what's already contributed there but no more further contributions. Everyone else has cut pension contributions both for active workers and retirees, why not theirs? That to me would have been a compromise.
