Well, ok, now that is funny. Man it has hit COLD (at least for us) down here in Texas, today. If I had that bus, I would keep driving South further, yet.

But no, you are correct. At your age and competence level, I do not think you should and did not literally mean to steal a bus and yada, yada, yada.

I am trying to tell you that it is no longer sensible to rely on the Good Faith help of Uncle Sugar. And this is not from philosophical "role of gubbermint," routine or anything. I am saying that the Good Faith part does not really exist. It means you are on your own. And that can be VERY liberating if you let it.

But, Dexter, while we are chatting a thread that is really going nowhere else, do you mind if I pick your brain a little -- just as to the mindset of the folks of Michigan? I have been out of there for about 20 years -- and only visit in and maybe every other year or so -- still have some friends and family there.

Does anyone there still have an independent thinking sort of approach or capacity? I do not mean that in any harsh way, so please forgive my sloppiness of phrasing. I am wondering a Why Not? of a Henry Ford type. Or a Why Not of a Tesla Motors sort of thing. To me it would seem a natural thing and outflow of the local industry and people that I recall. I guess I am asking -- Why Not? What is up with that? Have all the Corporation Operations turned the whole area into a Corporation Plantation or what? Just looking for some understanding. Thanks.

I enjoyed your post Philip T. It seems the one strength we have that is being over looked is
good old American ingenuity.

There is just a power game being played in D.C. The unions are the constituents of the Dems and the ball was passed to the Republicans. This thing is so hot, nobody wants to touch it but they will. Government has no backbone to do the right thing, force them into prepackaged bankruptcy.
Complete and utter lack of leadership on both sides of the aisle.

Detroit will get its loan (whatever amount) as DC cannot afford another 1929 Depression again. Going BK would have an enormous ripple effect on the whole nation as a whole. Won't happen. Too many small suppliers involved.
I can only blame the UAW for the problems today.
They have gotten too greedy and the Big three have given in to the union demands and signed a new contract that was fulfilled by raising prices to pay for the new contract bringing about higher vehicle prices out of the reach of majority of the populace.
Gas prices are not the culprit today.
Income levels have not increased on the same level proportionet scale.
Prices of homes/rent have gone up due to higher taxes.
There is a problem with paying a higher mortgage/rent/medical insurance etc.
The dollar only goes so far.
People cannot afford (many have over spent) high price cars with 5-6 yr payments.
Jobs do not have a 100% guarantee 3-4 yrs down the road.
How do you make those paymts?
A snow balling effect is now upon us today.
Steve
