I posted this at 10:30 at night and was hoping to have an answer before morning, but thanks so much for the helpful response. I know there are different rules for "stamps" where they [post office] can't track the sender, and when it's computer generated "postage" and they can.
I also know that you can schedule a pickup of packages at your house, but that only works for certain classes of mail (priority 2-3 day and above) and if you have an outgoing package of either priority or express mail, the mailperson will also pick up media mail packages at the same time. But if you only have media mail, you can't use that service.
I'm always confused about what pieces you can just put in your mailbox (i.e. letters, bills), what pieces you can drop in one of those blue collection boxes, and what pieces you need to bring to the post office.
