I'm not sure if I have posted this in the right area or not, but I want to start a non profit, I'm just not sure how. It is for a health related issue. Can anyone help me? PLEASE!
Best to seek the advice of your accountant and tax lawyer regarding a 501c(3) business structure.
Every business venture will be a bit different, so it's important that you have expert advice on how to structure yours to meet the operating requirements for a non-profit. There's a fair amount of paperwork which must be filed and accepted by the feds and state for your business, and a lot of reporting along the way ... which in and of itself is a cost burden to the business.
Best to get that expert advice upfront with your accurate business proposal and forecast in hand, because you may be heading into a situation with a non-profit operation where the cost advantages of a non-profit structure are outweighed by the benefits. I know of a bunch of them which generate so little revenue/cash flow that they'd be better off if they'd just operated as a sole proprietorship and paid the taxes ....
