Is downtown Calgary worth it? I can buy a place. There but I don't know if I want place that small for my budget. Is it fun down there?
like I can top out at 350-400k. I would prefer more room and get place like a Townhome in a suburb. My friend in Cranston tells me it's boring. But he has a family and in the mode for that. I am 34 year old single guy.
I don't go out much but once in a while is DT calgary worth the money?

I don't think it's worth the money. Maybe an area like Mission is worth it because it's a lot more lively than the downtown core and it's nice but you won't miss out on much if you get a nice place in a suburb close to shopping and a transit line. It depends on the individual though as some people like being surrounded by nightlife constantly. If you only go out once in a while than just buy a townehome in the suburbs.

That's what I think. I mean Calgary isn't exactly a Miami or Vegas. How much is it to Cab DT from the NW and the nicer parts of the SE
Could be right. Don't under estimate the costs of getting out of town and traveling within the suburbs though.
My friend and I worked really late nights on an audit. He took a cab home to Cranston every day. I am assuming his cost include tip, and might have been rounded up, but I don't think it was really far off.
He lives in the beltline now. The price of cabs on the weekend was a big factor in his descision to move, though lifestyle and daily commute were obviously more important.
I moved to calgaey when I was 25, and chose to live in varsity at first. I've been moving closer to the core since then.... First to altadore and now I live in sunnyside. The closer I liveto the center of town, the more I like calgary. But I also work downtown.
Downtown central business district (CBD) sucks. Boring and empties out by 6PM. 17th Ave/Beltline is alright but apart from some random one-off shops and a couple of bars, not much happening there either. Stephen Avenue is decent but not a place to go all the time, plus you can park for free at the Core past 4PM and on weekends and just walk there.
I'd check out Avenue Magazine's neighborhood rankings for some metrics. Personally after almost a couple years here I like the suburbs much more - arbour lake was ranked #1. A car in Calgary is much more important than a home IMO so make sure transportation is straightened out first. If you wanna be near downtown I would strongly look at Inglewood, Ramsay, Sunnyside & Kensington areas, 5-10 minute drive from almost anything there. Inglewood also puts you at a stone's throw from Chinook Mall.
