Im a born-and-raised Albertan, and yes, it is beautiful. Visit the mountains more than the cities. If your into fishing, and the far north, Six Lakes is the place for you. Plus, you can ATV on giant sand dunes!
The differences between Edmonton and Calgary? As previously mentioned, Calgary is cleaner (It was King Ralph's city, after all), it's also more sprawled out. But honestly - not that different. Their both cities you work in.
And to those from out of the country considering moving here, let me chime in about my hometown - Fort McMurray. There is always alot of buzz about employment and easy money here, hell, there must be the way people flood into town from all over the world.
If you were a friend of mine, my advice would be simple : Dont move here. Just dont.
Calgary is kinda lame. It's not so much a big city as just a large collection of suburbs. Calgary has a tall but almost non-existent downtown area. Come here if you like to drive everywhere.
That's not a detraction for Angelenos or Houstonians! That makes it feel like home. Sadly the freeway system is lacking in Calgary and the rest of Canada in general.

Yep. Imagine Houston with no I45, I10, 610, Beltway and cut 59 to half width. Of course you have to cut the population by 80% too, but seemingly not the number of cars...
I think Alberta is beautiful. When I'm there I fly in to Edmonton then go north two hours to a tiny town by the name of Swan Hills. I lived in Los Angeles and love it up there more than southern California. The only problem I run in to, is having to drive an hour to two to get fast food! And needing to go to get something takes planning an entire day to head in to the city. The drive between is beautiful, though. Horses, trees, bison (I think!), more trees, deer, trees, cows and moose if you're lucky.
I actually live in Canmore (which is right next to Banff) right now in the absolutely stunning "Three Sisters Mountain Village". I must say that I'm a west-coaster for life so I will probably always live in Alberta, BC, Washington or California (all have their distinctive charms). The Canadian Rockies are a definite must-see but I'm not so sure that living here is for everyone. The rents are extremely high and much of the town of Canmore consists of Calgary weekenders. They buy houses here, drive the cost of living up and then wonder why no one that has to work can afford housing here (thus creating a terrible job crisis). However if you have your own business and enjoy small town life this is an incredible place! I have tons of pics and info on the area plus I grew up in Edmonton so if anyone has any questions about life here please let me know
I have questions about life in Canmore. I'm thinking of moving to that place or any similar places in Alberta. I have a family of 3 childreen and wondering if it is a good place to raise kids and also to quickly find a job.
