Long beach is great, I agree. But I think you'll find a lot more young people in Santa Monica. Numerous UCLA students choose to live in Santa Monica (or at least they did when I was a student there a few years ago). But PopsGuysRule is right, it is more expensive than Long Beach.

Default belmont shore

Try Belmont Shore. It's in LB. It's an expensive beach community but lots of fun particularly for young people. You could rent a place at a reasonable rate.

try going on realtor.com
they have listings from almost all real estate agents.

this is one i found. its right on the beach
REALTOR.com: Find a Home - Listing Detail

Downtown LB is beautiful. Its very hip and theres tons to do. Its a large city with its own tall buildings for a DT.

thats DT in back

the shopping/ fun area right across from the ocean and aquarium.

tall buildings with more going up. the road is blocked b/c theyre getting ready for the grand prix. another great fun lively activitiy

it always reminds me of new orleans or a smaller miami

if u want LA county LB is probably the only place in that price range for that many people.
