The central valleys biggest problem is boredom.

It's too far to drive to the beaches everyday (for most of the valley), there isn't a lot of entertainment, inexpensive or otherwise, and because of that the valley is full of bored youth, a very dangerous prospect.

You will find lots of gang activity, meth heads, and in general, tons of theft and petty crime. One good thing is the price isn't bad, but you pay for what you get.

Roaddog, I get it you love the central valley and Bakersfield. I get it. Please. If there is so much to do here then why are you constantly posting? Mother of God, we are just stating our opinions, you don't have to get all high and mighty.

Not being high and mighty, I'm just not a cry baby, life isn't perfect, get used to it or go seek a doctor for some prozac.

Well. . . .

I know a lot of people who live at the coast (both California and Oregon) and all of them rarely go to the beach. Seriously. It's as if having it at their fingertips takes the magic out of it.

The Portland-Metro area has a humongous problem with meth crime, too.

Well there are people who also garage their Ferrari's 300 days out of the year (I don't). Doesn't give the car any less value. Living near the coast is a blessing, and it's one that most people pay a premium for.

Portland may have a meth problem, I don't know, I don't live there or want to. I think the entire Pacific Northwest kind of sucks to be honest.

Keep in mind that the beach may be several hours drive from the Central Valley but not the rivers and lakes in the Sierra. Anyone who has rafted down the Kern river knows how much fun and refreshing that is. And there are rivers and lakes all over the nearby mountains. Does the San Luis reservoir near Los Banos allow water skiing?

Last time i was there, San Luis O'Neill Forebay was a favorite with wind surfers...
