Something to keep in mind next time you hear Jerry Brown asking you to give the state more of your hard earned money.

State workers' unused paid time means big payouts

Thats unbelievable. The public unions will be fighting big time for the 5 yr tax & fee extension which is set to expire this june.
Does anyone know how much of the 25 billion dollar deficit is due to the public employees (state employees, teachers, cops, firemen, etc) ? The dmv is the worse ran state agency in ca.

I am glad and thankful to see that my tax dollars are being put to good use while I have a measly income that is forcing me to live within my means.

It makes no sense to vote for tax extensions for the corruption to continue on at the expense of taxpayers. Amirite?

Hmm,

I guess Wall Street and the Banksters had nothing to do with California's financial dilemma?? It's easy to pick on the people who make up the middle class, but how about the the state's tax structure??

There is abuse in every aspect of govenment (Unions, Federal Gov, State Gov, etc..), but when I'm paying 10.3% State income tax and so is a millionaire, somethings wrong with that picture! The Federal tax structure is no different....

In short, make the tax structure (Fed & State) equitable for every Ca citizen and you'll see a BALANCE in lifestyle... Lastly, fireman, police, nurses, teachers, etc. got into their professions to help people; they're our care providers!

While we are all working for a living or trying to survive in this economy, who's taking care of you kids?????

With the uptick in violence and shootings going on in our public schools, I would not say the schools are doing such a hot job of "taking care" of our kids. By the way, they are supposed to be TEACHING our kids and not merely babysitting them.

It is annoying that these government workers get these enormous payouts now. But the cause of the problem goes back many years. All employers, both private and public, are required by law to pay out unused vacation time when an employee leaves. Many employers anticipate the problem of huge payouts by capping the amount of accrued vacation time. I'm capped at 25 days, for example. The public employees in this story did not have such a cap, which was a stupid mistake on the government's part in my opinion.

I guess, as per usual, most of the people here didn't even read the article. Big sigh. The top wage earners were doctors and dentists. Those supplied by the state (because you bean sprout, tree hugging liberals wanted it) to give work to prisoners. Well, who is going to pay these people, because YOU wanted criminals to be taken care of???

No one to blame here, except YOU. YOU the people, within California, who allowed this to happen. You aren't going to a prison in California and put up tile, install light fixtures, and/or do anything without being compensated for it. Neither are the doctor's or dentist's. You wanted a "compassionate" lets make love California. Let's show the world, how socialism and getting along is. Well, you got it. Pay for it now and shut up.
