Good city/area options for young professional couple (age 27) (San Diego: job market, college)

Hi looking for a good few options as far as cities or regions that would be good for a young, active professional couple to move to from the South Florida area. We are very active as far as socially and physically as well. Like surfing, biking, hiking, fishing, other water sports. We also are huge into the live music scene.

We are looking for somewhere that maybe isnt too crowded with people(does that exist in CA?) but still has plenty of options as far as work goes. She is into marketing and I am in the staffing industry.

Santa Cruz seems pretty awesome but the job market doesnt seem that hot out there. We have visited San Diego and enjoyed it but it was awfully crowded. La Jolla was a cool place.

Anyways any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try Marina/Monterey maybe. Little less crowded, still coastal, and not too far from some nice hikes and such. Close enough to jobs I guess.

SLO is what it is. It's a smallish town and there is a college so lots of young folks, and it's expensive so many older people who've been there forever or have money. You have to find your place. I don't know about "up and coming"...it's not going to grow becasuse they don't want it to grow.
