We read stories like this every year. I'm surprised that there wasn't a lot of fires that often occur on the 4th of July due to bottle rockets landing on house roofs or in open fields.

At least it was his own hand that got blown off by his own fireworks. A couple years ago, at Dolores Park here in SF, some idiot threw fireworks at a group of people and ended up badly mangling some girl's hand. I'm sure accidents like what happened to that guy and kid happen a lot on the 4th though, all over the country, so i'm wondering why it's even in the news?
