Another court decision handed down today because a student going for an advance degree in college counseling wouldn't repudiate her religious beliefs and agree to "counseling" to rid her of them.

Right-Speak wins again! I can see her not being considered suitable for the offices in public universities which must hew to the politically correct notions of the day but to trash her entire educational goal goes beyond the pale.

Both court functions are right in line with the far left and nowhere near the middle where they should be. Both challenge the Constitution which seems just fine for those who seek to overthrow what built this country to begin with.

Exactly! Let the courts rule based upon real cases, not perceived if-comes!

Look, PARTS of the law are put ON HOLD for REVIEW.

It has NOT been "put to rest".

...Frankly, if I shared your political and social opinions, I would not be pleased. This action will be a rallying cry for your opposition. It would have been far better for those against the law, to let it go into effect, and later show "racism" whether true or fabricated.
Typical conservative reaction; accuse others of being crazy. To me crazy means doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Did you think your return to California would make it different than when you left? Does the world revolve around your little brain?

No, this action cannot be appealed. No rulings on the law were made today; portions of the law were placed on hold pending the resolution of the case United States of America v. Arizona in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. It is that case, not an appeal of today's partial injunction, that will ultimately determine if the sections stayed (and other parts of the law) will ever become law.

I'm not acquainted with the religious court decision and don't think it has any application to this discussion. Maybe you could post that topic on a different thread. But first, put down that cup of coffee because your nerves are getting jittery and stay on topic please!

OK! On topic. Why do you and your ilk dislike this country in which you/they choose to live?

...and this relates to the topic, or the gist of the thread HOW?

I am noticing that this jab/perry and off on a tangent is your SOP... Likely, you may be successful as a "spinner" some day.

Focus. Today's action was most likely a combination of legal and political concerns. Still, it is ONLY a HOLD for REVIEW. Really, today's action will mostly serve to inflame the right. You really shouldn't be pleased.

As I said, if I were opposed to the Arizona bill, I would have wanted it to go into effect so that I could show "Racism", and then take it up as a civil rights issue (after the action). It would have been a much stronger case.

As written, the Arizona law will likely survive review.

I am acquainted with the decision.

Julea Ward at Eastern Michigan University refused to counsel homosexual clients (a client she was assigned happened to be homosexual) as part of the university's Masters program in counseling. She claimed that her religion justified her refusal to counsel homosexuals.

Of course, a student can't just refuse to complete required steps and then claim "But I'm doing it for my religion, so you have to give me the degree anyway!".

What? Did you honestly believe that the Arizona law would hold up? I know you are a former California state employee who worked with the legislature\ governors. You must have insight. All the large cities [plus many smaller ones] in California condemned\ boycotted Arizona. The state legislature condemned Arizona. Governor Schwarzenegger condemned Arizona. The Republican candidate for governor, Whitman, condemned Arizona. The governors of Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas condemned Arizona. Now whose country do you live in?
