I'm with you on TX. Was stationed there twice in different places and after the last time, resigned from active duty and couldn't wait to get back to California where I stayed for the next 30 years; almost half my life. The state certainly does have a lot to recommend it!

The largest factor is a job for me. For my wife's career, she would likely make more just about anywhere in California than she does where we are now. If I found a good job that made sense for my career, then parts of California would be superb for our family lifestyle. I love how California is so diverse from the north to the south, from the west to the east. We will continue to come visit and hopefully one day we'll be able to call California home, even if it's only for a season.
