I currently live by Sacramento, and I have been offered a $75K job in Fullerton, California..and my wife's company wants her to transfer to their community in Lancaster ( we both work in assisted living ).

My wife is not real good at driving freeway traffic, and we hear that Santa Clarita is a good place to live and for our 14 year old son to go to school, and would only be a 44 mile commute for her on the 14 (?) freeway.

My problem is that EVERYONE is telling me my commute on the I-5 to Fullerton and back will take at least 2 hours each way..and that the traffic will be brutal no matter what time I get off of work.

Can someone PLEASE give me some advice on the traffic situation, and or some other options to consider...either town wise or transportation wise.

I need the job...but I dont want to hurt my family in the process.

Please help!

Thanks in advance!!!

That would be a killer drive to do every weekday. Especially for you commuting from Santa Clarita to Fullerton. I wouldn't say that "traffic would be brutal no matter what time you get off work" if you got off between the hours of 11pm-5am. I doubt you would get off or start your hours between those time, I would highly vote against doing that. Is it possible for her to get transferred to somewhere in Orange County or South L.A. County?

Consider the overall effect on your family of relocating to SoCal. Are you a hiking, camping, Tahoe visiting, bicycling family? If so, SoCal is not your best place. Where you are is far better.

If you are not an outdoors family, then it doesn't really matter.

Santa Clarita to Fullerton would not be much fun.

Santa Clarita is one of the ugliest landscapes I can think of, again, if you are not an outdoors person, it matters not.
