I've been reading a lot of threads about Bakersfield recently and it seems as though most people strongly dislike it but then there are some who literally love it... Too many posts to sort through to keep a general idea on the general opinion so I thought a poll might do it. If you HAD to generalize Bakersfield, taking into account, of course, that there are good parts and bad parts, what would you say?

Also, it seems like, as far as shopping and entertainment goes, Bakersfield is semi-barren but I've read a few mentionings of outdoor activities, which happens to be my dish...any input on that would be appreciated, as well...

I voted "meh" because I like the word Bakersfield is OK; I make fun of it for being the most conservative large city in California but it is basically a typical Valley city with all the things a person would want for the most part. Kern River and Lake Isabella are pretty close & great recreational areas along with the Sierra Nevada mountains. Bakersfield is very hot during summer but pleasant the rest of the year; it does have a smog problem like all of the San Joaquin valley.

I said it's ok and I live here. I've never felt anyplace I've lived is Awsome but thats just me, my home is just that, it's a place to live, my off time is spent in the mountians or the coast.
Bakersfield has been good to me.

I've actually spent weeks at a time in Bakersfield, and my UGH vote is based on the relentless Summer heat (that's not moderated by an ocean influence at night), the massive mosquito bites (golf ball size swellings) I've received while staying there, and the air quality.

Not even my love of Basque food and the music of Buck Owens and Dwight Yokum could rescue it from an ugh vote.

Judging from the number of Bakos that head to the coast every weekend, even the Bakos don't like Bakersfield much.

Pick any place in the country and their will always be those that either love it or hate it,and in my opinion I think Bakersfield is a great place to live if you don't mind Hot Dry Summers and Kinda Chilly Winters, and the Air Quality is mostly an issue if you have a sensitive respiratory system, other than that Bakersfield has all the amenities of any mid-sized city and the traffic isn't that bad compared to other parts of CA.

Bakersfield has alot of nice new and old communities and parks and it's not too far from Mountains,Lakes,Rivers and L.A is just about 2 1/2 hours away and it's about the same distance to Pismo Beach too.

Bakersfield is not for everyone, but I love this city

When my wife was a little girl her family lived in a split level home with swimming pool on a cul de sac off the Stockdale highway. One day her father came home and told them they were moving to Elko Nevada, which they did, they moved into a single wide trailer in Elko Nevada, and considered that, quite the improvement

Hahaha. I voted ugh. I can't imagine anyone enjoying the drive to L.A. having to cross the mountains, ugh indeed.
