I thought this was interesting news, given that's it's criminal, and I hadn't heard of it before. A poster by the name of AlwaysLooking found it and posted it, but it got no discussion. So......
please discuss:

Here is the newspaper article:
PEARCE: Jerry Brown, oil baron - Washington Times

and here's the meat of it:
Quote:
Chevron had just finished building a refinery in El Segundo that was designed to process Alaskan crude to compete against Indonesian oil for the California power-plant market. Before the facility could refine a barrel of North Slope crude, however, Jerry Brown's Air Resources Board - headed up by his former campaign manager, Tom Quinn - passed a new air-quality standard for sulfur just barely too high for Chevron to meet with Alaskan oil. That cemented the Indonesian monopoly, and the Brown family, as the only oil provider to the California power industry.

Good liberals like Brown all think capitalism is terrible unless they're the ones getting rich from it.

Default Irrelevant nonsense amidst continuing Pub-stink

George Bush proved once and for all that Pubs are bad for this country. The Republican ideology stinks as bad as the Pub narrative when Pubs are not leading the country to ruins. This bit of news about Brown pales in comparision to the threat of yet another Pub running this dynamic state. The focus is on repulsive Pub Whitman and the enormous liabilities, negativity, divisiveness, racial insensitivity, incompetence, and neanderthal conservative diplomacy that she brings to the table.

I'll take Jerry Brown over Pub-stink candidates like Whitman every time.

Whitman has called for a moratorium on the state's climate change law. Brown is firmly for implementing the law which is a direct threat to the fossil fuel industry.

Brown has a strong record on the environment, including eliminating state tax breaks for the oil industry when he was last Governor. Those tax breaks hurt the bottom line for ALL oil companies including his father's.

Big oil is licking its chops for a Whitman victory.....

Far too simplistic guys....Brown was more fiscally conservative as Governor than Reagan.

Also, yes he's rich but NOT nearly as loaded as Whitman. If Brown had only his own interests at heart he would be pushing for the capital gains tax cut.

Set the governor aside. The policies that control California are largely the result of the legislators. The majority are Democrats and have been for decades. Like all politicians, they like to inject government in the lives of their citizens. Democrats and Republicans both do it - but in different places. Democrats are more likely to create government programs that create addiction and dependence on the government.

Democrats are just as corrupt as Republicans.

The best answer is the fewest politicians, the least active government, and a focus on personal responsibility and freedom.

That is a very convenient view of history. The governor is charged with proposing the budget (and has a line item veto power). The governor in California has been a Republican every year since 1983 (with the exception of Gray Davis, 1999 to 2003).

I don't think California's current political problems are a Democratic or Republican problem. We have one of the LONGEST constitutions in the world with ridiculous rules and ridiculously high hurdles for passing a budget. In addition, we have "US" the dumb voters who pass all kinds of initiatives wich tie the hand of both Governors and legislators.

The reality of the situation is this to most news outlets means nothing. While if meg sneezes, picks her nose, pays for services from an illegal (anyone who has gotten a cheeseburger from mcdonalds has probably done this) and its a big hoopla. But Jerry Browns shady past can be ignored. You have to factor in to, for a lot of people, it could be Hitler or Reinhardt Heidrich incarnate and it would not matter, so long as there is a "D" infront of their name, they have the green light.
