The answers are going to vary greatly. I couldn't afford to live in SLO so I live in one of the outlying areas... but for me, I like flying and this is some of the best year round flying weather you can get. In addition, I spend a lot of time at the beach/dunes hiking and there aren't a whole lot of places where you can do that all through the year. It's right in between San Francisco and LA so it's a fairly short jaunt to either metro.

Plus, just driving or riding your bike through the area is pretty amazing. Me and my ex took a nice drive down Old Creek from Cayucos to Paso today and it was beautiful. I've lived in a few other places and the SLO area has been the only one that has felt 'right' to live around. It's kind of abstract, but it works for me
