Hi!

We have lived in Siskiyou County and "off the grid" for many years. A combination of solar, batteries, and generator. We are now thinking about moving out of this deep snow area and farther north to what we refer to as "the banana belt"...near Montague, Yreka, Gazelle, etc.

I am trying to figure out the cost differences from where we live now. I am curious as to what folks pay on an average for electricity. Right now we use a lot of propane (dryer, refrigerator, generator, water heater) which is our form of a utility bill and I'm hoping that we would recognize a substantial savings! We are not terribly frugal in that we have a big screen TV and computers frequently in use. Also, I'd be getting some things that living in the sticks has not allowed...big refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, whatever...I do understand that wherever we move we may still have some gas usage. If you have both, I'd also like to know what you pay on average for both.

Thanks in advance for any information. If you also have any thoughts about other things that I should take into consideration I would appreciate the input.

Oh yeah....I have no clue what type of heat we may end up with. We'd certainly prefer wood or Monitor heat. Would certainly avoid electric.
