Still I am questioning the credibility of calling people students that take less than a class a semester over a 6 year period. I am questioning calling someone a college student when they are in need of pre req classes. If the classes are needed then by all means take the class. Realize that you are not officially a college student untill you are taking college level classes. Just my personal rantings and ravings. LOL
So what should they call themselves? Advanced High School students? Remedial college students? Why does it matter what they're called?

It took me nearly 7 years to graduate from college because I was working 40+ hours a week and didn't want to graduate in debt, so I took a class or two every other semester, or whenever I could afford it. I graduated with honors and ZERO dollars of debt... so what if it took me a few extra years? How long do you think it will take those 4 year graduates to pay off their student loans? Probably a lot longer than it took me to graduate

Exactly. Why is anyone concerned with what someone is called? Surely we realize that as a society, the more education that's offered, the better for the general populace. And for those not pursuing an AA, shouldn't they be encouraged to pursue knowledge of a subject simply to learn something new? After all, they're paying for the classes.

FWIW, students who take remedial math and English classes have two semesters to pass those courses. They are not eligible to take them after that and, the last I heard, one does not receive credit toward an AA for a remedial course.

I get the fact that it takes people longer to finish a degree. That is fine. if you read the story what we are talking about here is people that are not really attending school. If you are taking one class a semester it will take you 20 years to complete a Bachelors degree, that is if you don't attend the summer session, which is getting harder to do anyway because many times the classes are just not offered. Most classes are 3 unit classes and to complete a Bachelors you will need at least 120 units to graduate. Why call them college students if the fact is that they are not in the class room?

Also why call them college students if they have not passed the basic classes needed to get into college?

Who cares if someone gets some debt by attending school? Most Junior colleges are cheap and it would be hard to get into debt attending them. The student that completes a degree of value could pay off any debt associated with the education. Maybe doesn't apply to the English majors or Sociology majors, but for many people they can handle the debt load after graduating with a degree of value. Lets say Engineering, Medicine, the Sciences.
