I agree! If all the naysayers would just GO, we would have a pretty good time of it here. As Yoda would have said,,..."Complain not,,,LEAVE!

Hehe - I'm in Florida and I second the sentiment for here, too!

Southern California should secede from the state and let Sacramento keep the debt.

Fine, and while we're at it, we'll keep all our water, timber, agriculture and hi-tech, thank you very much. Big deal, so we lose Disneyland and Hollywood, which are kinda has-beens anyway. So let's see how long SoCal can go without their iPods, iPhones, Google, eBay, golf courses, swimming pools, cheap desert real estate and affordable groceries!

So you're saying Apple, timber interests, high tech manufs and the CV growers would refuse to sell their products to the State of Southern California, while Google and Ebay would block access to their sites? That's almost as retarded as what wrcousert proposed.

Geez, Aspergers literal much?! Like the idea of SoCal seceding, it's called "hyperbole" (aka, intentional exaggeration)... something I'd figure most SoCal folks would already be very familiar with!

I would find this article fascinating were I not a jaded and cynical Vegas native. You Californians and Texans want to see how real doom and gloom is done? Go read the Las Vegas Review Journal and hang out in Vegas sometime. Y'all are nothing but amateurs. Nevadans own both Texas and California when it comes to pessimism. All those articles in Nevada newspapers will teach you real quick about how to write proper doom and gloom. Nothing like "we're dead last in per pupil spending" and "too many people dead in drunk driving accidents" and "why can't people here learn to drive" and "there is no water!" "the greedy casinos!" "why isn't the state in the green yet?" "Them Californians will ruin Nevada!" and "the folks in Carson City will ruin us all with their taxes!"

Amateurs.

Well, I did couch it as a question rather than reacting, so gimme a little bit of a break. It's hard to read people when you're READING them. Unfortunately, I read enough retarded stuff not said in jest on these Calif fora that nothing anyone says or proposes surprises me. And I mean NADA ZIP NUTTIN.

Correction: Not the Western Hemisphere, but most of the so called "rich" "developed" countries are broke. Many of the countries in Latin America (part of the Western Hemisphere) are actually doing better than the developed countries. The people in those countries don't expect their governments to provide them with cradle to grave economic security. They understand that function should be served by family and extended family. Interestingly enough, this is probably why many of their governments are becoming more financially stable than "rich" countries.
