Thousands of families who were slated to lose their state-subsidized child care this week have been granted another reprieve. Alameda Superior Court Judge Wynne Carvill on Friday ordered the state to temporarily extend services the governor cut from the budget.

The judge granted the stay at least until Nov. 23, when he might take up the issue at a hearing...

An estimated 54,000 children were initially slated to lose their child care slots on Monday after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger used his line-item veto power to cut $256 million in welfare-to-work funding from the state budget. The program he cut, known as CalWORKs Stage 3, provided reduced-cost child care for low-income parents who had not received cash aid for two years or more.

Unless they find an affordable alternative, some parents have said, they face the prospect of having to leave their jobs -- and, potentially, go back on welfare...

So their options are to leave their toddlers home alone or quit their jobs and go back on welfare.

That's one of the problems - a judge can "order" payments all he/she wants, but if there is nothing in the bank, the state should be able to tell the judge take a hike together with his orders. One just can't make something out of nothing just because some 'wise and all knowing' clown at the bench 'ordered' something.

The state is broke at least they can fall back on welfare, I know folks who run the sec 3 daycare centers, many of them went out because of non payment and now that they were paid some recieved 50% of what the state owed them, my sister in-law will be out of the buisness soon and has lost her home becaus of the non payment of the state.
Instead of cutting this program the corruption in the welfre system should have been repaired.

Shouldn't have had most of those kids in the first place. If there were no free childcare and no welfare what the heck would they do? Figure that out then DO IT.

So you support abortion rights and better access to contraceptives, right?

In the olden days these mooches would be left to die on the street. Wish we could go back to those days. I'm tired of paying for my kid and a couple of primate's kids to boot.

Or they'd have to move back home to Ohio to have grandma watch the baby. Instead, they get to stay here clogging up the freeways and taking taxpayer money.

I do. Not that it matters once the kids are here.

I'd even consider forced sterilization and/or BC under the some circumstances.
