5 things?

the climate (at least as a tourist, but boring as a resident)
the diversity
the energy
the beaches and driving up Highway 1
the food

Weather
Our families live here
Jobs
Amenities
Diverse geography
Choices for retail, food, services
Many opportunities for hobbies, recreation, interests
Pride in the state, it's universities, sports teams, residents' accomplishments
Not a lot of "group think" - diverse sets of opinions, people who think outside the box, creative people, entrepreneurs, visionaries
Relatively secular - again, no religious "group think"

Fontucky, they've got far better Mexican food in New Mexico, particularly Santa Fe.

I like the deserts too. I also like Curm and Nita. They make good posts, proving that there is intelligent life outside of California.

Now if they could only show there is intelligent life inside California.

Sorry, I'm a huge NM fan but that's just flat out not true. In fact much of what they eat in NM today originated in CA. I'd put a Mission burrito up against anything wrapped in a flour tortilla in Santa Fe.

Oh bullfrog! I lived my whole life in CA and been to SF and every meal I had there (yes, all New Mexican cuisine) was better.

What we have here is gutter Mexican food.
