Times are really bleak these days for subs. I work for a pretty large school district, but I'm only getting 1 day a week of work. I called 10 other school districts who of course aren'ts hiring. All these laid off teachers are returning to subbing, so of course they get the priority when it comes to jobs, which completely knocks out or greatly lowers the chances of the subs getting assignments.

Teaching as an occupation is really getting hammered, in all cities, in all areas.

Yeah, it's horrendous out there. I just completed my schooling to have my speech-language pathology assistant license, so hopefully I'll have more luck getting a job in that field.

To make things worse, most districts have cut their teacher leave requests down to critical demands, so there are fewer and fewer sub days being funded at all. Not many "mental health Fridays" being approved by administrators these days. At many schools, administrators themselves may have to fill in if they go over the sub quota.
