There's two Leisure Worlds in Orange County, one in Seal Beach and one in Laguna Woods. Seal Beach is obviously close to the beach but Laguna Woods isn't that far. Both have a mix of people from active and still working people in their late 50's to people in their 90's. I'm sure there's many others but those are the two I know of in my little corner of California. Its a big state.

You may want to consider a very active and private community, located in Rancho Murieta CA 95683 (approx. 24 miles south of Sacramento). May not be near the ocean, but we do have 5 lakes. A country Club with two golf courses (the Seniors PGA golf tour used to play here). Etc. We have lived here for approx. 7 years, and we love it! Very safe. Crime is nearly non-existent; except for a few minor things do happen. I have never ever heard of any personal safety crimes. In order to ascertain that info, you would need to speak to our police / Security Chief Greg Remson. There is only one way to get in and out of this neighborhood, and that is through a 24 hour posted security guard. About the only things we may worry about, are the deer and wild turkeys disturbing our landscaping. Overnight parking is NOT allowed on the streets; you must park within the garage or have an overnight permit to park in the driveway. This makes a very clean looking neighborhood. The medium house price is approx. $600K. The north portion of our community has custom homes and the south portion has (very nice) tract homes. Lots of community activities throughout the year. In any event, take a look for your self, at RanchoMurieta.com

Its mostly white, quiet, and safe. But its close enough to just about every socioeconomic, religious, cultural, and racial group you could image.
