Texas is so sucessful because it's cheap as hell.

They claim they are business friendly and they are but the property taxes are through the roof.

The people who flee to Texas from California do so because they aren't wealthy enough to live here. They have even said that it's because they can afford to live there. It can be a negative for Texas though because poor people could live there for cheap and basically do nothing productive to the Texas economy. California will ALWAYS be better than Texas in terms of diversity, cities, cultures, weather, scenery, outdoor activities, and endless beauty. Texas may be doing better than us with their economy but California still comes out on top for everything else. So let's let Texans think they are number one but we all know what state people would rather live in if they could afford to.

if the price of living in CA was the same as Texas, everyone would flee to here and probably those who were forced to move to Texas would come back. Then we would have way too many people, so be thankful that this place is only for the upper middle and the rich classes.

I never understood why people flee to Texas when there are 48 other states they can move to. Colorado is way more beautiful than Texas as well as many other states. it's just because Texas is cheap cheap cheap!

WRONG- people move out of California so they can live within their means instead of living outside their means like most in California. I lived there for over twenty years just fine right up to the day we moved. One big factor of moving was the ability to cut cost going out of the household. We lived just fine- enjoyed trips- and all the normal stuff Californians do.

Curious and curiouser. This must be some of that famous West Coast tolerance and open-mindedness I keep hearing about.

You are a joke.

Look, saying California will always be better than Texas is not be close minded. It's a fact!

Texas is ok but I would pick several other states to live in before moving there!

If that makes me close minded then so be it!

Thinking someone who doesn't have strong feelings for Texas is close minded, is close minded itsself!

Is Texas influenced by religion? I suppose it is. Is it a good thing? For some it is, for some it is not. What is well known and written by the media is not the truth. And you really don't know what life is like in Texas.

The media probably overstates the strength of Texas' economy. See how that works? The media writes stories for people to read.

Texas has economic issues, as every state does right now. Our problems are not the same as everyone else's though. There are however some very objective factors to measure certain things. Things like unemployment rate, foreclosure rate, debt, and industry mix. The state budget is another. We have a big budget gap to close - but about half that of California. Our tax sources are different, so our recovery will be different.

Texas probably doesn't need anymore people to move here without a job. We have enough organic population growth and legal/illegal immigration to deal with.

Incorrect again. Texas is doing very well compared to most states. Virtually every list or poll that comes out has all the Texas metros among the healthiest, best economies, fastest to recover, etc etc. These lists come out all the time. This seems like wishful thinking on your part....you want it to be just as bad, but it isnt.

For those who promote Texas, a deep Red state with no state tax, as an example for California, it is clear that conservative policies fail.

"How bad is the Texas deficit? Comparing budget crises among states is tricky, for technical reasons. Still, data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities suggest that the Texas budget gap is worse than New York’s, about as bad as California’s, but not quite up to New Jersey levels".
Why do we in California care about how good or bad the economy is in Texas? Why don't you post this in the Texas forum section?

schadenfreude

Why don't you just quit stirring the pot? We don't need people to foment dissent. You're just inciting bad feelings to troll the topic up.

I don't give a rat's defecation how good or bad things are in Texas. If I do I'll visit Texas and find out for myself.

Is it true that you have multiple usernames on this forum? Just wondering...

Texas kind of reminds me of Easter Island. It's the kind of place where you go and cut down all the trees and then you say, "Hey! We ain't got no trees to cut down no more! What can we use up next?"

And so on...

You are wrong. Dallas went Democratic in 2004, and Dallas County went Dem in 2008. Nearly all county-wide offices are held by the Dems, which explains the general decline of Dallas County.

Fort Worth is generally conservative, and the suburbs are very conservative.
