Bakersfield... well...

I live in Bakersfield. I have also visited Sacramento, as well as Davis. I can assure you that there are plenty of quality people living in this area.

I heard Bakersfield had a higher class hillbilly feel to it or it was strange.. would you say similar?

No, just poor compared to the major cities on the coast.

if you want a Lower Cost of Living,Smaller Populated Area,Less Traffic and being closer to L.A,then Bakersfield will suit you.

I also wanted to mention to please do not judge Bakersfield from passing by on the Highway 99 Freeway, because so many really nice parts of town are not seen from the freeway.

Bakersfield is just like any other mid-sized city and has all the Good and the Bad just like every other mid-sized city.

Default Bakersfield vs. Sacramento

Thank you Caliguy I was trying to get a clear understanding of what Bakersfield is like. You were the only one with a straight forward, well rounded and understandable answer

How are the schools?
Any cool places to skateboard?
Parks; closest beaches?

Thanks for any feedback.

Sacramento, hands down. More to see and do, more job opportunities (even though the economy is lousy in the entire state), more housing and school choices.

As to Bakersfield, I've only heard it's the butt of a lot of jokes, along with Fresno.

People the only thing sac has better is downtown and more sprawl. To me sac isn't nothing but a whole bunch of suburbs and small towns squished together and sprawled in stupid directions.
