If "people" preferred it, it would have already been built or in the pipeline. When was the last time Macy's or other large department stallworth from the mall days opened up a store from scratch (not just reusing a vacant site). Throwing out a bunch of locations that are functioning just fine and will not be "going out of business" anytime soon doesn't help your cause.

FYI TI's aren't cheap either...

What's TI?

Because population, getting loans, and the place with the least amount of environmental impact is hard to do in SLO.

And there was a pipeline project for Macy's. It was in the Dalidio Ranch project, but then that project went under and Macy's tried to go in Forever 21's spot but Forever 21 outbid them because F21 knew they could make lots of money off a college town.

And you are right. It's probably unlikely they will build a new store. Unless Macy's could go in the Los Osos Valley Road or Calle Joaquin area where they could get traffic and business and customers from existing shopping centers. But with the traffic already bad in that area it might not work.

And you never where a Macy's might go. Forever 21 might not last, or Madonna Plaza or SLO Promenade could expand. Or Macy's could go somewhere on the outskirts of downtown. They thought they would be going into Gottschalks spot because they were already getting their sign permit ready.

It all will depend on the deal put forward. I heard the Madonnas are done building, so if thats true it would have to be another developer doing building.

Hmm, well I still think Macy's could take over the Sear's building. With a little bit of renevoation and expansion.

Are you a real estate agent, because you sure do speculate like one...

Macy's said at their Santa Maria store they want to shut down that store and open one up where Forever 21 is now. Now who else agrees that Forever 21 didn't really stand a chance? With few high schoolers in the area, and college students wanting more mature clothing it really didn't work.
Come up to San Mateo county. We're getting a new Forever 21, Cheecake Factory and something called H&M And there's already a Macy's here!

Please, take "the city" up there. We are tired of reading his constant desire for Macy's and a mall in SLO. Give up already and move north.

There is still something strange about that kid.

Because this is my home and I'm here for my friends and family. And like most people who just leave and give up, I DON'T!

One day Macy's will come here. Hopefully it will take over Sear's, but if it happens to be a new building then fine too. It's a shame it hasn't happened already. We got Kohl's, Forever 21, Target, and Olive Garden and no Macy's yet.

No, not really. Tenant improvements are often subsidized by city/county incentives. Do not speak of what you do not know of.

If Sears failed you really think Macy's can succeed?

When you see a Macy's being built it will look exactly like Fresno on the coast.

Nordstrom's and Macy's both rely on a total daily sales of $300.000 a day per store to operate. Neiman Marcus relies on sales of $450,000 +.
Sear's, JC Penny's, Target and Kmart all rely on daily sales of $75,000. To expect Macy"s to take over where Sear's failed is infantile.
