While I don't agree with the tone OP is setting, I can tell you that its not exactly fun going to school where your ethnic group is subject to racism, and comprises 2% of the school.

That said, I'd have zero problem sending my kids(of any race) to any of the high ranking schools in SGV.

Reminds me of a story, My high school was quite the mix of whites, Mexican Americans, Chinese Americans, Japanese Americans, Filipino Americans, and four African Americans.

One of the girls I graduated with went to Fargo North Dakota for college (gawd knows why). In the dorms one night the girls all got out their high school year books to share, these North Dakota girls, nearly uniformly blonde and blue eyed were shocked at the numbers of "foreigners" she had to go to high school with. She was amazed at their reaction, the multiculturalism she grew up with was natural to her, but very different for the North Dakotans.

And that was 40 some years ago.

Thanks, that's why I asked. I will look more into Arcadia...so far it seems to be the best option.

For the record, I am from South TX, grew up with Latin Americans, African Americans and have year book pics of both since that seems to be an issue. It never would have even occurred to me that living near Asians would be an issue except that I read several posts in this forum before asking a simple relocation question where it was mentioned several times by native Californians as a negative. I apologize for being offensive. This seems to be a "hot button" in that area. I was just wondering where to live that wouldn't be a ridiculous commute. Peace and love.

You have a good point. It's not so much a racial issue, as many people believe. As someone who grew up in an area of the San Gabriel Valley that is now primarily Asian, one result is that the schools are extremely competitive. Many parents don't like the fact that there is so much pressure now in academics, sports, theater arts, etc, and that their non-Asian kids can't always keep up. For some families, this can cause a degree of resentment.

There is some truth to this. I grew up also in a primarily latino and asian neighborhood in SGV and there was a significant amount of pressure in the honors an AP classes due mostly to the influence of asian culture.

I didn't mention it as a negative. Only pointing it out as a point of fact.

I think you have the pecking order wrong. It's more like:
Diamond Bar > Arcadia / Walnut (tie) > Rowland Heights

i'm not sure how Chino Hills would figure in.

Oh, and VERY important to note nymom, Chino and Chino Hills are different.

Angry Newnymom or Nimcumpoop

I thought your Asian comment was condescending and bigoted. I know this post is old, but If you are one of those white redneck hillbilly women, I hope you stayed where you were. Most people in LA do no appreciate comments like that. My parents are super rich and you are obviously NOT so get a grip, you are non better that 'them'
