Yeah, I liked it a lot better a couple years ago when the conservatives were off on an internal "purity" binge, arguing over who was a "real" Conservative, etc.!

But now that the fuss over "Illegals" seems to be fading, they've got this new national agenda, re: state workers and unions, and the 'wingers should be able to milk that particular scapegoat (and public distraction) for quite awhile. Plus it chips away at union support for Dems (hey, what a deal...)!

BTW, Montana is in the Top 10 of "Red" Moocher states (i.e. that receive more in Federal funds than they pay in taxes): MT receives $1.64 for every dollar in Federal taxes paid.

I'm not sure this nullification thing is automatically a bad idea. I mean, couldn't California & other states do this with marijuana? We're essentially doing it anyway by flouting Federal pot laws.

It seems to me nullification is only dangerous when it's a law you don't want nullified.

But that's the thing California isn't attempting to nullify federal law, just ignore it until caught. Raids have taken place on pot farms and dispensaries and no local law enforcement tried to stop it as far as I know. Quite different than what's taking place in Montana.

Not at all. California has neither the power nor the ability to nullify federal narcotics laws. The only thing they could ever do is decriminalize pot at the state level. Traffickers of marijuana--even "authorized" pot dispensaries are still subject to federal law, always were and always will be (unless federal laws are changed). The only reason the dispensaries continue to exist is because the federal government chooses to not make an issue over it. Same would apply had pot been decriminalized for everybody rather than only people with medical excuses.

When you get right down to it pot is pretty much decriminalized anyway. I understand possession of less than an ounce is already just a $100 citation similar to a traffic ticket. Big deal. The likelihood of getting caught is virtually zero unless a pot user flaunts it or is incredibly stupid. The $100 citation is a stupidity tax. (Just like the Lotto is a tax on those who don't understand mathematics.)
