The death toll from Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami is likely to exceed 10,000, is it true? I feel its worst than Haiti one. Lets pray and join together to help the people of Japan.

And sadly, that total is just for one area (state?)....there are a couple of cities that are entirely wiped out. It's just so incredibly difficult to understand...just awful.

The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant could explode after equipment used to cool down the reactor failed following the Japanese earthquake

I couldn't understand the preliminary estimates of only 1,000 deaths. No way, I thought. Not after seeing the destruction of the tsumami, with no warning.

I want to donate too but I am not sure to what organization. I will definitely not donate to Red Cross. Read a Time magazine's article several years ago about the overhead fee of this organization and it was just ridiculous!

You might want to consider getting over what you read. There was a shakeup and turnaround. Things get out of hand and then back under control in all organizations that have longevity. The Red Cross has been around since 1881 and no entity has done so much for world and individual disaster relief. No other organization is so well situated and established around the globe to get help where it is needed, the fastest.

A close friend's house burned to the ground a few months ago out in a rural area south of me a ways. He had been out on errands and drove up in the dark as the fire was being fought by the local volunteer fire department. The Red Cross showed up before the flames were out, too. He had nothing but the clothes on his back and is out of work with no income. Even his stash of cash was in the house (yeah, all burned ... a few thousand $). Red Cross set him up with clothing, food, and a motel within hours. He couldn't have gotten so much help even from family that fast, even though family was within a few hours' drive.

Nope, I don't work for the Red Cross.

I think the International Red Cross is a good, safe way to go as far as donations.
