Hey, I was wondering what any of you think about oceanside? I'm moving there (maybe depends on what you say) this summer, just for the summer though.... I've lived my whole life in Nebraska so I do not have the inside scoop. Any input would be helpful, me and my sister are just looking for a town in SoCo that has a beach and is safe for two 20 year-old girls. Thanks!

Oceanside is a larger town so it obviously will have good and bad areas...
Back to my topic.. (You may want to start your own thread)
Anyone else know of any towns that fit my criteria. I like the idea of Ventura. But Port Hueneme is cheaper...I've heard it's dangerous though. Any thoughts? Any more suggestions? I heard of some hippie-like town in San Diego county...I forgot the name but I'm pretty sure it had "Ocean" in it. Is it Oceanside I'm thinking of? Am I going crazy? I read it in some other thread I can't find for the life of me.

I'm looking for towns with good surfing though! I haven't heard anything about the surfing!

What I'm really looking for are some personal stories with some detail if possible.

If I did it over I'd live in Encinitas and go to school at the San Marcos branch of State.

I've had people recommend both Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach. Is it really crowded (like does it have the big city feel still?) or is it more like a suburban smaller beach area?

Oh yea Oxnard and Port Hueneme are very dangerous. They are so bad that the FBI has them on a list. Lets see what did that list say, oh yea that Oxnard is the 38th safest city in the United States. I am sure that compared to places like Thousand Oaks that is the 5th safest city in the nation 38th place looks bad. Not sure where Port Hueneme is but that city is surrounded by Oxnard on its North and East side, the ocean at the south side and the beach and harbor communities to its west.

Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley say FBI data shows they are among nation's safest cities » Ventura County Star
