California's unemployment rate fell to 12.2% in February from 12.4% in January, the California Economic Development Department reports. That's still the second-highest jobless rate in the nation, behind Nevada's.

The national unemployment rate in February was 8.9%.

BAM? This isn't good news, the growth rate needs to be a lot higher to dig the state out of the hole it created.

There's a difference between good news that could be better and bad news. This is good news. Bad news would be if California lost jobs, like it had been doing a year ago or so.

Technically if we're going to equate it that way, this would actually be a payment of about $43,000.

I think their point is your posting suggests all is well now on the job front in CA like Jerry Brown waved some magic wand or something. That said, it is great there was an increase in the jobs number but Brown (and Ahnold etc.) had nothing to do with it.

Um, I made no mention of Jerry Brown or Arnold?

Neither of them created one job-this is due to Californians of all political stripes creating jobs. Its okay to be happy about this-even if its tempered with soberness about the many more jobs we need. We deserve some good news it after that terrible recession.

Anyway, California was one of just 7 states to see a noticeable decline in their jobless rates.

Nevada experienced the largest over-the-month unemployment rate decrease in February (-0.6 percentage point). Six other states also posted statistically significant rate declines from January: Florida (-0.4
percentage point); Indiana, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina (-0.3 point
each); California (-0.2 point) ; and Maryland (-0.1 point). The remaining 43 states and the District of Columbia registered jobless rates that were not measurably different from those of a month earlier, though some had changes that were at least as large numerically as the significant changes.
