There is no way we can take billions of dollars from public school funding and give giant corporations huge tax breaks. I've always maintained that public education on local level always get scraps of what was left over after top administration officials have taken the bulk of the money from the state.

The sad reality is that top administration and politicians have lost sight of who is really suffering; the students.

There were no negotiations in the first place because republicans refused to even come to the table.

Exactly.

And no, higher taxes on rich people and corporations is not "punishing success." It's called "making those who can most afford to pay, pay more."

Higher taxes are an INVESTMENT in quality of life and in society.

Basically.

Its not negotiation when only one side is making an effort to compromise.

The state GOP is trying to do in Sac what the GOP did in DC-hoping to convince voters that the Governor isnt listening to them.

Only problem is, this is not DC, this is California and most of us want compromise, most of us want this issue resolved.

The cuts that happen in school districts mostly occur to teachers and support staff that work directly with the kids. It's actually a bit of a shock to hear of any admin position being cut, and that's exactly where the cuts should happen. This is a case of the foxes guarding the chickens though. It's mostly an old buddy network that needs a kick in the ass from the outside. Who's got the nuts to do it?

Higher taxes are an INVESTMENT in quality of life and in society.
And that is the worst possible way to approach this.

Higher taxes are absolutely not an investment in the quality of life and society. Where the hell did you ever pick that up? We're getting a pretty lousy return on our "investment." The only people making out in this deal are public sector union members. Have you seen our roads lately? We have the highest taxes in the country, so I guess we're just not "investing" enough, eh? LMAO.

Just because someone can afford it, we should tax them more? Boy, I'm sure glad we have people like you looking out for the best interests of society.

It's most importantly why people shouldn't be voting on this .....
They are delusional, uninformed, and voting based on an irrational/illogical/non-factual premise. As people joke, those who feel CA does a great job, should be able to personally fill a check box on their tax forms and submit to paying the higher tax rates if they wish. But no, they shouldn't be allowed to make others face the consequences of their emotional/uninformed opinion.

2 years .. $25 billion more .. temporary tax hikes and there over and its time for the state to tackle :
> Illegal immigration
> Pension reform
> public worker compensation
> waste...

Not another 5 years from now. It will be hard ... it will be harder in 5 years.

regardless of your stance on the budget, saying that the people shouldn't vote on something is a very slippery slope. be careful what you wish for my friend.

It was a temporary tax hike of 2 years. As I recall, we already voted for it and said no in 2009 :
http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/California_Proposition_1A_(May_2009 (broken link))
But due to a provision, it was granted anyway.
I am careful what I wish for .. and I don't want a bunch of emotional/uninformed people scared that the poor kids will suffer going out and forcing their choice influenced by 'appeal to fear' on me.
