Dare yourself to go to the ones that look like they just got transplanted from the barrios in Baja. The food will be fabulous, authentic and you can brush up on your Spanish. Pork Pastor (BBQ) is my favorite, you'll never find it at El Torritos.

Old Town Placentia has a few good ones, but how about El Cholo which has locations in Los Angeles and La Habra?

Josie's Tacos in Riverside is great, and was featured in Sunset Magazine as a great place to get tacos. It's definitely a "hole in the wall" place.

Anita's in Fullerton has great New Mexican style food, and great little sopapillas.

Enjoy!

Just a little taco stand, El Mexicano Taco House has the best carnitas ever! There's one in Burbank and I think 2 in North Hollywood. But sadly I don't live near one any more. Anybody have recommendations for Ventura area besides La Familia Diaz?

I think the OP means the On The Border mexican restaurant. It's just a chain restaurant like the others he mentioned.

Las Brisas (Official Website of Las Brisas Restaurant, Laguna Beach, California) in Laguna is in a real nice setting on a cliff overlooking the main beach and it has some really good, inexpensive mexican food.

I like Wahoo's Fish Tacos, but I'm easy to please

I enjoy Javier's in Laguna Beach...It's not too pricey, laidback, nice sit and dine experience and casual too...I've been there many times

Hope to venture out more to some places in SD area
