We've had a great Winter for snowfall in the High Sierra this year.

Skiers Rejoice! California Ski Resorts See Record Snowfall - AOL Travel News

The snowfall was so consistent this Winter and early Spring that Yosemite actually closed last week due to rockslides, power outages, etc... I was planning on taking our kids to the snow. But with road closures it was a challenge. Eventually Sequoia National Park opened Hwy 198 up on Saturday and we drove up the mountain for Mr. Toads wild ride. But it was well worth the effort and gorgeous up there with the fresh falling snow.

The skiing is nice and all but I'm more happy that the five year drought is over so maybe they'll relax on the manditory water cut backs. It sure would be nice to be able to water my lawn again.

Good luck with that. Unfortunately a mild winter next year will throw this state back into a drought again. Too many people living in a semi arid state and its only going to get worse. Suggestion get rid of your lawn and plant native plant species on drip irrigation. It only a matter of time before it becomes mandatory in a lot of areas.

NICE PICTURES ANSEL.

Awesome as usual Derek! I was beginning to think one could look down at the top of the sequoias if the snow had kept falling.

As for the end of the drought, I'd say show me every reservoir in CA full to the brim and I'll agree the drought is over for a couple of years.

I've seen these photos from where else.

Yep, the snowfalls must've been crazy before we headed up there. By the time the roads opened up in the High Sierras, snow was already melting. Beautiful, but kinda scary. I'm just not around snow much.

I agree. Lawns were developed in England and are meant for wet climates. There are some nice plants native to Ca. and in any region one should have no trouble maintaining an attractive landscape with them.

A wet winter is almost always followed by a dry one.

Glad you guys liked the pictures.

While there are no guarantees for next year, I'm thankful for a good rain/snow season this year. That's for sure. California can use all the water it can get.

Yep Tim, it was a wild ride, but well worth it. I hadn't had to use chains since my pre-kids days at least 10 years ago.
