Nicknames for California
Here in California, we never say "Cali." The proper abbreviation is "CA," and we sometimes use "Cal." We also never say "Frisco." Well, maybe in S. California we do, but NEVER in Northern California. They are VERY touchy about that up there! It's OK to say "L.A."

'Cali" is actually an old navajo word for "pretentious know it all transplants"
and "frisco" is an old ohlone term for "great place to be an interior designer"
so both are actually very applicable.
