There is. It's called the initiative process and has all too often resulted in unfunded mandates that must be met.

No. Stay away. You don't want to drown, do you? I'll pray for you, sister.

So, what church do you attend?

Slowed them to as trickle and we have a screening committee that has to approve them or the gates remain closed.

People always spout off on this board about crime and gangs and illegals and act as though California is turning into the wild west.

The reality is most people throughout CA don't worry about dealing with crime an gangs in their normal day to day lives. Of course gangs do exist and bad things can happen anywhere, but really how many people are living in neighborhoods that have been taken over by gangs? Most areas where crime is bad today were areas that were never very good to begin with.

The root of many of California's problems can be blamed on the state's unfriendly business regulations and its inability to spend money frugally. It's pretty ridiculous that the state leaders can't agree on a budget that will get us out of the financial hole were in. I'm sure that if I got to look at a copy of the state's budget I could take a red sharpie and cross off loads of idiotic stuff that taxpayers are stuck wasting their money on and this state would probably have a budget surplus. There's really no logical reason why this state should be so financially upside down given how much revenue it actually takes in. It's like there's a black hole that sucks all the money away.
I see and live it every day. I bought a house in Downey back in 1991 and the area was mixed but it was safe and a good place to raise a family. Many retired people lived in Downey/Bellflower. Over the 16 years I lived there the city and surrounding cities changed dramatically with major increase in illegal aliens, increased crime and gang activity. I sold that house in early 2007 and moved to Huntington Beach where there was much less crime and relatively no gang activity ... but more expensive.

I have worked in the Redondo/El Segundo (near the 405/105) for 34 years. That area is quickly going downhill with increasing illegal aliens, crime and gang activity.

Here is an example of a home in Cookeville

BEAUTIFUL, PRIVATE SETTING ON 5 ACRES WITH CREEK WHERE YOU CAN SIT ON THE FRONT PORCH AND WATCH THE DEER AND TURKEY OR JUST LISTEN TO THE CREEK AND THE QUIET! This spacious home only 1 year old, with over 3400 sq. ft., features large rooms, pretty 6 crown molding, and 9 ft. ceilings thru out. 3BR/2BA, with an additional (2) half baths. Huge kitchen with pretty cabinetry with a 42 glass corner cabinet, ceramic edged backsplash, and loads of counter space. Large, main level master suite with tiled whirlpool jet tub, large separate shower, walk in closet, and his and her vanity sinks. You will never run out of storage space, due to the super… sized basement. Located in NE Putnam County, just 10 minutes or so from town. Home is well insulated with low utility bills and seller has appraisal on file from July 2009 for $212,000, so priced below appraisal!!
