My name is Larry and Im 22 years old. I have about two more years in undergrad and as some of you may know you can't wait for last minute to look into PT schools and apply. I want to move out of state and lived in FL for almost 3 years. Im now on the quest for California.

Since I'll be going to school I will obviously need affordable housing and sometimes thats rare when you live by the ocean. I don't want to move to a neighborhood that is "the hood" where I will have to worry about my car being stolen and getting mugged daily.

With that being said, these cities are my options:
Azusa
Fresno
Long Beach
Northridge
Sacramento
Loma Linda
Los Angeles
San Marcos
Stockton
Pomona

Any advice on these? I can't even differentiate which of these are South or North Cali.

Well, I know most of these areas and actually attended Loma Linda. Long Beach would be my first choice. I have friends who went thru PT school there. You have many options for places to live if you go to school there. Personally I like Loma Linda better in terms of the school and hospital themselves. But the location is really bad. The air quality is some of the worst in the nation. I actually commuted from the coast and it was crazy, long. But I just couldn't live out there.

Most of those other locations are in hot, muggy less desirable places. Northridge would probably be a second choice. Fresno I would consider if you really like the mountains vs. the coast. Its at the base of the Sierra Nevada.

Honestly its really going to come down to where you get accepted. Competition is stiff for PT school. The most important thing is to get good training. Then you can live wherever you want. One the great things about Loma Linda is the gym and nice outdoor swimming pool.

Long Beach has a very strong PT program. It also has surprisingly affordable housing prices for a beach city in So Cal

Also, offering a Doctorate in Physical Therapy is the new standard for PT programs that need to renew accreditation after 2015. So there are new DPT programs (free-standing not joint programs with a UC campus) approved for the CSUs at Fresno, Long Beach, Northridge, Sacramento and San Diego. Those DPT programs are scheduled to start in 2012 and 2013.
