I plan to visit Monterey Bay this autumn. Are there parks with benches and such where one can sit and enjoy the ocean at night safely? Last year in La jolla, I would go to the cove and really enjoy seeing the waves (full moon) and hearing the seals. I've been there three times and have felt very safe. An answer to this or any other ideas would be greatly appreciated since I'm really looking forward to this trip but know nothing of the area yet.

Best regards,
Emil

Sure. San Carlos Beach and Lover's Point and pretty much the entire bike path from Fisherman's Wharf down to them. Monterey is very safe. I lived there for a couple years and was out in the evenings all the time.

The area is very friendly, a lot of great bicycle paths. There are plenty of places with live jazz to enjoy. Carmel is very dog friendly. A lot of park benches along the beachs.

Thank you very much for the reassurance. There has been such a surge in crime in the U.S. due to the bad economy, I believe everyone would do well to research their trips. Of course, all it takes is being in the wrong place at the wrong time, isn't it?

Thanks again,
Emil

Make sure not to miss a visit to Big Sur while you're in the Monterey area!

Thank you, jaijai. Big Sur is one of the reasons I want to go to the area. My sister went and loved it, and there seems to be no bad pictures of it. I also plan to visit Carmel Valley and Santa Cruz; and, of course, the Missions since I'm Catholic and just found out that Blessed Junipero Serra is buried in the Carmel Mission. I'm starting to find out a lot more.

The temperature sure is nice compared to what we go through in the Houston area, especially this year when we are facing what could end up being one of the hottest years on record and no relief from rain.

And it's also said that there is no photograph that can truly capture the beauty and spirit of Big Sur.
You gotta see it and feel it to appreciate it.
Have a bite to eat and/or a drink at Nepenthe or on the deck at Cafe Kevah (a little less expensive and easy and with a gorgeous view) which is just below Nepenthe restaurant.
Nepenthe Restaurant, Big Sur, California
Enjoy your travels on the central coast.
