which cities/spots should I stop by to see on my way up?

I'm thinking about spending about 30-60 minutes at each just to see and take pictures...so I could stop at several dif. places with the time being...

I will be stoping at a hotel midway (from LA to SF) so I can take the time to see a lot of things on the bottom half as well as the top half before I get to SF.

I'll be spending 3 nights in SF.

Any suggestions?

It will take you a week to make the drive if you want to see much. Two days? Pretty tough, I'd forget the City and take 5 days to make the drive.
Stand by for heavy opinions.

Santa Barbara, Solvang, La Purisima Mission (near Lompoc), San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Cambria, San Simeon (Hearst Castle and elephant seals up the road on Hwy 1), Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park (McWay Falls), Pfeiffer Beach, Partington Cove (nice short hike), Point Lobos State Park (for short hikes), Carmel, Monterey....
If you have time, try to swing inland to see Yosemite and Gold Country.
So many places, so little time.

Here's a more simple list: Santa Barbara is a must. The Pismo Beach/San Luis Obispo area is a must. Cambria, Big Sur, Morro Bay, Carmel are all small beautiful coastal towns that you might want to stop through but will probably get the gist just driving through them as they sit almost right on Highway 1. Santa Cruz is also a must. Pacifica is a cool little town but you'll drive right through that and see all there is to see on Highway 1.

I'd go with Santa Barbara, Solvang, San Luis Obispo, Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey, Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay.
