there are so many things wrong with that picture. But, it's not what you think. I guess I'm more troubled about the shorts/skirt/denim ensemble (because I don't understand what is going on there, well, I mean with the actual ensemble, I haven't seen that number in any of the stores) and the fanny pack/cell phone holder (s/he could have atleast stowed the lighter inside the pack? what's he/she got in there?)

oh ...the taxes. Horrible. You have to justify to your employers why you need to make 15% more than wherever you were before. That's how I dealt with it.

But it's not enough for the 50% increase in housing, and I'm not talking even buying, just renting.

Property taxes are not a trade off when you don't own a home. This is what was nice about Texas and Washington. No income tax and I didn't have to deal with property taxes.

Deal with what? Taxes on lower and middle income folks (80+% of the state) are relatively low, it is only the top 10~20% that gets hit harder than most other states.

You should look at Canadian and European tax rates for a reality check (although, to be fair, they do get a strong set of low/no-cost social programs in return.)

You should look at the disaster that is becoming of Europe due to their wonderful form of taxation/government. Canada's new guy wants to privatize healthcare .. LOL. I love when people reference the grass on the other side w/o digging into the books to understand the impacts it has.. You hit a prolonged recession .. those static high service governments will fail.. they are not able to scale down in tough times ... Such rigid design never stands the test of time ...
