I don't know what to be more happy about: Chiang halting pay for the lawmakers, or the fact the lawmakers still attempted to kick the can down the road.

Capitol Alert: Controller Chiang halts pay for lawmakers

KSFO (radio station in SF) was encouraging listeners to call Chiang to jam his phones lines with complaints about how the legislators were to receive $700/week in "food allowance" (thought that's what I heard!) because they had indeed filed the budget on time, despite the fact that this was planned to be vetoed anyway so they wouldn't lose any remuneration.

This is outstanding.

I have to give some small credit to this administration. Granted Brown is in the pocket of the unions in many ways. But I say, kudos to the veto and kudos to his Controller Chaing for sticking to his guns!

According to what I heard, Brown was in cahoots with legislators to get the budget in under the gun and then he'd let them work on it later at their leisure; as they continued to get paid.

I'm actually surprised by this (I guess that's how much faith I have in Sacramento politicians these days). Good for Chiang.
