The location of a capital doesn't mean anything. D.C. is flush to the eastern edge of the country and I don't hear anyone in the west feeling alienated from federal politics. The California capital is up north and I don't hear the SoCalians complaining about nor do I think it effects that state in any negative way.

Southern California doesn't complain about the location of California's capital to the extent that South Florida complains about the location of Florida's capital.

I think you mean 8th in the world. About the same as Italy, which is geographically the same size as California although it has a larger population.
What California politicians didn't vote for Afghanistan? That war was near-universally supported in Congress (even Ron Paul and the most left wing CA Dems voted for it, I think Kucinich was the only vote against it). A majority of US public opinion was for it until 2008. In California there was majority support for it until 2006 (obviously with the exception of Berkeley).
As for Iraq, most of California's Congressional delegation voted against it.

The capital of East California should be Sacramento. The capital of West California should be LA.

What many fail to realize is, once an E-W split happens, lots of unusual characters will flee Sacramento and head West. They will then get (re)elected by their original constituencies and will fit right in the new West California capitol building in LA. All the blue county types will flee west and all the red county types will flee east. The new state of West California will finally get to realize its long awaited Ecological Utopia and may even go the way of Allende Chile. Maybe it would be a good thing for everyone involved, a friendly divorce.

Wherever the Capitols ended up I think it would be hilarious to watch the sheeple elect the same losers to the congress and the new legislatures they have kept in office all these years in Sacramento. New states, same old problems and incompetencies, both headed in the same direction.

I think a good divide would be along the tehachapi for the south/north boundary and along the ridge of the sierra nevada for the east/west boundary. Keep Sac the capitol of West/North and make Riverside the capitol for southern/eastern. For some reason Riverside seems like it would be a capitol city for socal
