Am looking to move to southern CA. I'm a single parent and we are not Christian. What areas would be a good match for a liberal, left wing, nonChristian single mom? TIA for any help.

Religion does not have that strong of a hold in CA like it does in the south. You will not be publicly shunned because you do not go to church.

If you're "left wing," then stick to urban LA or San Diego. Avoid inland towns in general (this is true across the state). OC has only tiny pockets of left wing liberals, so you're best off in a funky city neighborhood. In SD, good places are Hillcrest, North Park, University Heights, South Park, Golden Hill, Kensington, and even up the coast in Encinitas or Solana Beach (the north county beach towns aren't AS liberal as the areas closer to downtown, but they're a funky and eclectic mix and you'd certainly feel welcome). In LA, nobody cares what you do. There will be people ten times kookier than anyone you've ever come into contact with before, no matter where you are.

A Liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to repay with your money.

I can't even remember meeting someone in San Diego or LA that cares about what religion you may or may not follow. It's actually nice to meet someone who does have an interest in oneself for that matter! haha. Obviously, smaller towns out in the boonies may be a bit different but any of the urban areas that have a variety of people will be fine. Live and let live

Your will be welcome here. Don't worry about your religious status. I would not talk about it (your church status) unless questioned, just so that you don't have to defend your position. I raised my child here without the usual bible stories and she did fine (she is now a scientist). There does come a time when your children will question religion and the fact that they are not as knowledgeable as their friends. If I had it to do over again, I would educate the children in many religions just so that they would be familiar with the common stories that their friends are raised with, and they are not unfamiliar with the common religion based stories. I would still allow them to form their own choices and support their choices even if they are different than mine.

LOL @ being worried about your religion... people are so busy and self centered here in California nobody has time to care about your religion. They will be more pissed at you if you driver your prius in the fast lane holding up traffic.
