So, boyfriend and I just got offered a job at the same power plant he was working at near Eureka last year. It has been short notice, but comes at a perfect time since our present lease on the east coast is up in June. As much as I hate the area (and I hate it with a passion), I can't give up the money being offered. With that being said, can anyone recommend to me a website besides craigslist that may offer month to month apartment rentals in the area?

Life isn't a dress rehearsal. You go one time around and that's that. Why move to a place you hate so much?
BTW, I could be happy in Eureka. Tall trees, bagels and coffee and Victorian architecture; that's not so bad.

Why does anyone move to places they don't like.... $$$! Which is why I am doing it. Since we do contract work, we pretty much go with the highest bidder, and what's available. Right now, this one pays the most, by far! I am willing to put up with a place I loathe for a while to make the money to be able to go somewhere I really want.

I'm sure the state university in Arcata has a housing website. I still have a cousin going to school there & he loves Eureka.

What's wrong with Humboldt? It seems very nice... Sure Eureka is a little rough, but it isn't that bad, I think?

Well, my problem with it is that it is so far removed from everything. To go to any of the larger chains and such, one must drive hours on long, scary windy roads. Also, I am also not very fond of the "California" type houses. Perhaps it is because I am used to colonials and cape cods and the like, but that is just my taste. Another thing is that I am constantly panhandled by people who look more than capable of working. The culture of the area and the way I like to live my life just do not mesh.

Except for the job situation (even in better economic times),the paucity of cultural options, and the lack of diversity, Humboldt County seems like paradise - even Eureka.

One more thing, I asked for places that list apartments in the area, if anyone has any more info, that would be great. I am not looking for commentary on why I SHOULD like the area or sarcasm. It's personal taste people.
