"Health care, not welfare" ?? That's a slight exaggeration.

Im surprised the checkers make as much as they do. I guess scanning a item is a skilled job. I do know the lifer checkers at stater bros earn $19.00 hr + 5 weeks paid vacation annually. I DONT shop at vons, albertsons & ralphs but i do know the union prevailed on this & i hate unions.

Unions give hope to HS dropouts with no skill to make decent bucks. What's next? Union extortion where the Union member collects a check without actually doing anything? Plus, a retirement package.

If that's the case my oldest is job ready because she's been stacking blocks for years. Who needs Junior High, get out there and make money.

The unions pretty much got what they wanted & they say its mainly due to health care. Unions rule ca & the usa.

There are fewer "lifer checkers" now. Even the ones who were hired 6-7 years ago don't make what the old timers make. The unions have had to concede with newer hires.

And from what we all keep hearing, checker jobs won't exist in a few short years. Or will they?
