True. You reminded me of Niland, and Salvation Mountain. Google it if you don't know it. It's worth a visit. The artist, Leonard Knight, is one of the sweetest people around. Though I wouldn't call him conservative, but radical in a universal sense. Maybe there are some more 'fundamentalist' types living in neighboring Slab City.

What saddens me is that I am tolerant of folks whose religion, sexual orientation and political views are different than mine BUT those same folks are not tolerant and inclusive of me.

But their intolerance toward you is not a factor of the differentiating qualities. It is a factor of their own personal shortcomings. Worth remembering.

"True Believers", no matter the faith or belief or ideology have much in common with each other, less in common with moderates.

A good read on the subject is Eric Hoffer's True Believer,
Quote:
Hoffer argues that all mass movements such as fascism, communism, and religion spread by promising a glorious future. To be successful, these mass movements need the adherents to be willing to sacrifice themselves and others for the future goals. To do so, mass movements often glorify the past and devalue the present. Mass movements appeal to frustrated people who are dissatisfied with their current state, but are capable of a strong belief in the future.

As well, mass movements appeal to people who want to escape a flawed self by creating an imaginary self and joining a collective whole. Some categories of people who may be attracted to mass movements include poor people, misfits, former soldiers, and people who feel thwarted in their endeavors.

Hoffer quotes extensively from leaders of the Nazi and communist parties in the early part of the 20th Century, to demonstrate, among other things, that they were competing for adherents from the same pool of people predisposed to support mass movements. Despite the two parties' fierce antagonism, they were more likely to gain recruits from their opposing party than from moderates with no affiliation to either.

OC and San Diego. Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, Monterey, and Salinas have some liberal christians. Santa Maria has more conservatives.

The San Joaquin Valley is very conservative and christian too.

Anyone who actually paid attention to what Jesus actually said, would find it utter impossible to be a Conservative.

That can be said for a devote liberal too.

The big values christianity and republicans share are anti-abortion, anti-same sex marriage, no on legalization of marijuana, and the the Bible also backs up the death penalty.

You will notice I did not use the word bible, nor did I reference anything the originial right wing whacko Paul said.

Lets go through a little of what Jesus had to say;
Matthew 5:44
Matthew 5:21
Matthew 7:1 & 2
Matthew 5:6
John 8:7
Matthew 6:15
John 2:14 & 15
Luke 12.15
Matthew 6:24
Matthew 22:39
Matthew 7:12
Luke 14:13 &14.]

You just posted works from the Gospel and the Gospel is the story of Jesus. And I posted in the last post, probably no strong liberal would follow his true teachings either. I don't see many people in this world selling all their belongings and going radical.

You are wrong, flat wrong.

Conservatives have twisted Jesus's teaching to correspond with their pre existing ideological/psychological beliefs.

It is wrong, and they don't have a snow ball's chance in hell of getting into heaven, on the whole they are bigoted hateful people, and throughout history they have rationalized their bigotry and hatefulness by parsing the bible.

I recommend that you cancel your appointments for the balance of the day and read Jefferson's Bible

Protestants won't, but Catholics do.
