Here's a shot of Collins Radio in Burbank, probably around 1960 or so. My dad got a job here. I scanned his Kodachrome slide.

I love pics like that.

Newest car in the pic is a 57 Chevy, though one of those I can't make out could be newer. Nice 56 T-Bird in the background also, plus that 55 Chevy.

It scares me that I remember those days when you saw such cars when they were reasonably new.

I just asked my 87 year old dad. He thinks it might have been Alameda Avenue.

You were a couple of years ahead of me. I went to Roosevelt Jr.HS in '55, then moved to the west valley the following year.

I loved the small-town feeling. We were near Chevy Chase & SF Road. Used to hunt frogs in the LA River. Belonged to the Elks Club boxing club for boys. Got a kick out of using the old elevators in the apt. bldgs. when delivering my newspapers. I saw the '55 T-bird through a showroom window on Brand, and the salesman let me sit behind the wheel.

I had a pet duck that would follow me to the drugstore, where he waited while I sat at the counter sipping on my 5 cent cherry phosphate. When he grew too big my dad took him to a farm.

Where abouts in the west valley? I grew up in the homes NW of Fallbrook and Saticoy.

Tampa and Victory looking northwest early 1960s

Sherman Way and Topanga looking North East 1953 (From CSUN Digital Library)

Am very familiar with that area. We lived near where the Greek Orthodox Church is on Balboa. Next to the Falk Ranch between Plummer & Lassen, actually. That was pretty far west for the time; Northridge was a lot of dirt roads and coyotes.

Your thumbnail of Bob's is NOT the one on Sherman Way, but I couldn't open the photo to determine which Bob's it was. Really enjoy your posts and photos.

LOL I remember when you couldn't see across the valley like that photo of the Chevron station. At least some things have changed for the better.
